Brooklyn was definitely the place to be Saturday, July 21st when some of the natural hair and beauty industry’s most popular content creators, social media influencers, curlfriends, supporters and multicultural brands gathered in Prospect Park for CurlFest 2018.
Produced by experiential marketing group Curly Girl Collective (CGC), CurlFest is the world’s largest festival committed to creating a fun space where women of color can celebrate their natural beauty, authenticity, and be themselves unapologetically.
How amazing is that?
CGC, a pioneer in the natural hair movement, curates unique experiences and innovative events with the biggest names in the natural hair and beauty industries including: Miss Jessie’s, Carol’s Daughter, Cantu, Mixed Chicks, CURLS, Dark and Lovely, and Shea Moisture.
Described as “a mecca of afros, twist-outs, curls (and beards!) set to a soundtrack of #GoodVibesOnly”, CurlFest is the perfect setting to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones– all while spreading positivity and uplifting one another.
It’s especially nice to run into that one person from Instagram you’ve been curl crushing on for forever and snap a selfie.
Each year CurlFest gets bigger and better (attracting 30,000 attendees this year alone) from the fashion and hairstyles choices to the creative use of body paint and “hair props”.
This year ‘fits were reminiscent of a Soul Train meets Coachella mashup (ha!).
For those unable to attend (*inserts eye roll for myself*), the #CurlFest2018 hashtag on Instagram served plenty of #MelaninMoments and lewks honey!
